Reviews for HoonSikDang
Review highlights
Based on 255 reviewsHoonSikDang is widely recognized for delivering authentic Korean street food with a strong emphasis on quality and traditional flavors. Reviews commonly highlight the generous portion sizes and the tender, well-prepared dishes such as soy-braised short ribs, handmade dumplings, and cold noodle soups. Customers appreciate the simplicity of the menu, which focuses on a few perfected specialties rather than an extensive variety. While the service is frequently described as attentive and friendly, some feedback notes changes in the quantity of side dishes (banchan) offered, balanced by unique touches like complimentary beef soup. Pricing on add-ons, such as extra noodles, has drawn some comments about value. Overall, HoonSikDang is praised for its authentic taste, consistent food quality, and cozy atmosphere, reflecting a genuine Korean dining experience that appeals to both locals and those seeking a nostalgic culinary connection.
Very authentic Korean street food style cuisine. Really brings me back memories, and not only taste is superb, the quantity is big! I am so full!!
The long wait was absolutely worth it! The food was incredibly authentic, with just the right amount of spice in the cold noodle soup. The beef rib was incredibly tender, practically falling off the bone. And the homemade mandoo!!! My favourite! The service was attentive and excellent. I enjoyed every bite! Thank you, and I will definitely be back!
This is one of the rare Korean restaurants in Sydney who makes food with tender, love and care. Safe to walk right in or take away. Rhodes is lucky to have this Korean restaurant. The menu is very simple but they focus on the dishes they do BEST. Dumplings are handmade and soups are great abroad. Must try soy braised short ribs as they are simply fantastic. Cold noodles in cold broth (Naengmyeon) is also great and it’s highly ideal during summer. Good cooks show confidence in their food. You can definitely taste that in their dishes. I’ve tried most of what’s on the menu and they are consistently high in quality. Interior is clean, service is good and for these reasons I give this place 4 stars
It's a pity Hoonsikdang doesn't offer the same amount of banchan as they did before but maybe people were wasting it. But they are unique in that they offer you free beef soup as a banchan. I haven't tasted every dish yet but all has been pretty good so far from each of my visits. However, I have a toxic relationship with their cold noodles with seasoned stingray because it is delicious but hurts me the whole time because my spice tolerance is not that good. I'm hoping the owners will strongly consider adding Binggrae or some other milk based product to their drink line up. I'm a bit sad to see the sujebi dishes got taken off the menu (that or into wasn't paying attention), hopefully they return in future.
We ordered one bibim naengmyeon and one mul naengmyeon, and both were flavors I really enjoy. I especially liked the bibim naengmyeon. However, I was quite surprised that adding extra noodles cost $8, which felt overpriced. On the plus side, the complimentary broth was extremely delicious.
Spicy beef rib noodle was tasty and the staff were helpful in adjusting the spice level. It was good if the meat was cooked more. The other two dishes were a bit light in taste but still good. I also liked the self-service beef broth. Generally happy compared to other Korean restaurants that we can find around here.
We came here today as a group of six friends, and honestly, it was such a great experience! There were plenty of tables when we arrived, and the staff were super friendly. They were attentive and rearranged the seating right away once they saw we were a bigger group, which we really appreciated. We decided to try this place after seeing great TikTok reviews about their cold noodles (it was a very hot day), and THEY WERE RIGHT! The noodles were perfectly chewy, the flavouring was spot on; so refreshing and exactly what we needed. The serving size was also really generous, especially compared to other places, and all that for just $19. We ordered both the regular and spicy cold noodle soups, since other menu items were sold out by the time we came, but honestly, we didn’t mind at all. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and they were playing NewJeans in the background (#comeback #NewJeansWeMissYou) it added such a fun, nostalgic vibe for our friend group. They served kimchi as the standard side dish, but also surprised us with some pork dumplings on the house (so sweet of them, no idea why but we weren’t complaining! We’re very grateful ). Overall, amazing food, great value, and lovely service. Definitely a must-visit spot on a hot day in Rhodes! ⭐
Best Korean dumplings at Rhodes! Freshly prepared & steamed delicious pork dumplings & kimchi dumplings located between Rhodes shopping centre & Rhodes Central. Dumplings are not frozen & then streamed to serve. Cold noodles are delicious & other dishes are yummy as well. Every dish is well priced. We spent around $20 per person. Dishes are good portion & fulfilling.
